Administration facing pressure to end talks.
U.S. Iranian Envoy Rob Malley said that the current situation with Iran is making the pursuit of reinstating a nuclear deal a “waste of our time.”
“It’s not on our agenda. We are not going to focus on something which is inert when other things are happening,” he said, regarding the stalled talks to re-establish the 2015 deal made during the administration of President Obama and reversed under President Trump. Envoy Malley said, “We are not going to waste our time on it if Iran has taken the position it has taken.”
In addition, the White House faces growing pressure to relinquish the deal and end the talks in the wake of Iran’s tough response to a women-led protest and efforts to supply Russia with drones it is using in its war against Ukraine.
“I think people have to understand that they were not tying our hands because of … this hope that someday maybe there’ll be a deal,” Envoy Malley said. “No, we’re taking action. We’re not waiting. We’re taking the action that we think is consistent and necessary to promote our values and our national security interests.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Envoy Malley to seek discernment from the Lord regarding Iran and the proposed nuclear agreement.
- For the president and his foreign policy advisors as they consider other options to address Iran.
- For U.S. officials as they work to ensure the country’s national security.
